| Multi-channel Multipoint Distribution System (MMDS) receiver is a device that receives wireless high-speed visual imagery and data services whose coverage span around the 40km of electrical wave distance using the high frequency broadband range of 2.5~2.7GHz. The MMDS is mainly used in cable TV, super-highway Internet services, VOD, remote meter inspection, home-shopping and in two-way communication TV services. It has an advantage of an easy construction of infrastructure. The MMDS services are connected to TV, set-top box and PC through antenna and block-down converters installed on the receiver. Since it is a transmission technology based on microwave, the line of sight between the transmitter and receiver must be cleared. The biggest merit of the MMDS is that it can provide the broadband Internet services and video services at low costs with only one wireless base station required for one city without having to rely on the network of existing telephone companies or cable companies. Also, the MMDS has an advantage of an easy upgrade since it takes the central base station format. |
